ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic changed how people live their lives. This change, in turn, heavily affected companies in the sense that they had to adapt to the new reality in many different ways. A process that had to suffer major changes was the recruitment one since a lot of the traditional ways to recruit employees were not suitable in this new reality, which led to the massification of e-recruiting. In this article, we investigate the ways that companies operating in Portugal adapted in order to compete in this new e-recruiting paradigm. To this end, we sent a survey to multiple companies, directed towards their recruiters and human resources managers, to collect data and feedback relating to this adaptation. We obtained 38 answers, from which we were able to find that it is very common for companies to offer the option of remote work, either full or partial, to their employees, even as the pandemic loses strength. Furthermore, we also found out that while the use of social media, like LinkedIn, for the task of e-recruiting is also becoming a lot more common, there are still reservations about some other e-recruitment processes related to Artificial Intelligence and serious games. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. ABSTRACT

Microalgae usually called "Spirulina" in the literature and in commercial packages have been studied as potential sources of protein for food and feed supplementation. These microalgae are produced industrially worldwide, being recognized as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) by the Food and Drug Administration (USA) and accepted by the European Union for human consumption. Apart from a high protein content and balanced amino acid composition, its biomass contains compounds with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antiviral and anti-microbial activities. Some of these compounds have been determined to boost the immune system and prevent diseases such as hyperglycemia, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular and respiratory disorders. It has also been suggested that the supplementation with Spirulina biomass and/or its extracts could help immune systems to fight different viral infections, including those by SARS-CoV2, the etiologic agent of COVID-19. This immunity boosting activity has been related to the presence of some polysaccharides, carotenoids, phycobiliproteins, fatty acids and biopeptides in the biomass. In this context, this chapter will address the boosting effect of the immune system by Spirulina exploring its antiviral activity and respective mechanisms. © 2021 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic forced Portuguese higher education institutions to go home and teach online. Therefore, we had an online experience teaching the Statistics course to the Social Service degree. Viewing this school year experience, we decided to make some changes in the Statistical courses of Informatics, Mechanical and Civil Engineering degrees. Our main concern is still the uncertainty of what is yet to come in the next first semester: face-to face or emergency remote education. In this work we present our ideas in order to develop our students' skills - collaboration, communication, citizenship/culture, creativity, and critical thinking - through their probability and statistics course and as part of their degree's curricula. © 2020 Maria M. Besides being a powerful tool for implementing tourism marketing actions and policies also enables the monitoring and measurement of results;helping to keep them at a level of effectiveness and success or to improve them. Digital Marketing can also be a strong ally in combating unforeseen economic crises in the hotel sector, as is the case of the current situation that we are experiencing caused by COVID-19. In this article, the Digital Marketing strategy implemented by HSL from the point of view of the digital consumer will be analyzed, through an exploratory analysis of its website, online booking platforms, social networks and how these digital tools have helped HSL throughout the pandemic.
